This Week: GDM | Purchase Your Own Business Premises

Posted by G. Dean McKinnon on 12 August 2013

I had a client contact me earlier this week, to discuss options for purchasing their current business premises, which they are leasing, but have been given the opportunity of purchasing.

I have only ever arranged Vehicle Finance for this client, and they are not a Total Service Client, but that doesn't mean I may not be able to help in some way.

I had a general idea of the client's circumstances, given my past dealing with them, so I was able to discuss the general issues relevant to the property purchase, and possible mortgage strategies - including Self-Managed Super Fund, private equity partner, vendor financing, amongst others.

Given my experience in these types of purchase strategies, I was able to discuss the need for appropriate legal structures, risk management strategies, and other relevant issues that may need to be addressed by the client, if they proceeded.

Whilst the client didn't need comprehensive advice at this time, they were able to at least start considering the relevant issues, and I can prepare something more detailed in the future, should they wish to proceed with something more formal.
