#EveryoneNeedsaPlan: Protect Your Identity with My Equifax Identity Watch Alerts

Posted by Dean McKinnon on 7 March 2024

Increasingly, we have to face the challenges presented by living in the modern world where almost everything we do requires interaction with the 'online world', which is convenient but at the same time risky.

  • A major challenge faced by us all is protecting our identity
  • Cyber criminals are always searching for identifiers, such as name, date of birth, driver's licence numbers
  • The criminals then can use the stolen identity information to make transactions in the name of the person, such as arranging a loan
  • As we, or the entities we deal with, now store a lot of our identifiers online (e.g., Driver's Licence), we are at risk of that information being stolen
  • It's unlikely we'll revert back to the days when all of our personal identifiers were held in a safe in our own homes, so we need to find ways to protect ourselves from identity theft
  • One way to try and protect yourself is by knowing if a criminal is attempting to use your identity
  • Equifax, a credit and identity monitoring company, offer a product that monitors your credit activity and personal identifiers and alerts you if someone is trying to use that information
  • Unfortunately, you cannot guarantee a criminal won't steal your identity, but you do need to take steps to try and stop them
